Cross section of a sensory neuromuscular spindle lodged in a skeletal muscle and stained with silver.
Among the cross sections of skeletal fibres (M), one spindle is delimited by a connective tissue capsule (CC). Within this spindle there are several narrow atypical muscle fibres (*). A few of them are surrounded by argyrophilic segments of nerve terminals (arrows). These nerve terminals are arranged in a spiral around the muscle fibres. Stain: Silver
