Section of a small nerve stained with osmium.

Delimited by the connective tissue, called perineurium (arrows), is a bundle of myelinated nerve fibres. The fibres are seen in oblique sections (*) and in cross sections (+). The osmiophilic myelin sheaths surround the unstained axons. Note the variability in diameter of the nerve fibres.
