Section of the human endometrium during the luteal phase of the endometrial cycle.
This field shows sections of uterine glands (G) from the superficial zone of the endometrium. In these sections the glands show a wavy pattern due to their helicoidal shape. Their distended lumina are delimited by a simple columnar epithelium composed of a single type of secretory cells. Between the glands is loose connective tissue (*) composed of fibrocytes widely separated by acidophilic intercellular fluid. Stain: H–E
