The Medical Computing Resource (Medcor), in the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University, is located on the 2nd floor of the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building.
Medcor is a small group whose main responsibilities
are to support administrative computing in the Deanery,
to manage the Faculty's connection to the McGill fibre-optic
network backbone, and to provide e-mail facilities for the faculty.
They also support computing facilities for students and residents.
Over 1500 user accounts are currently supported.

The Medcor offices are in room 222 of the McIntyre Building. The computer labs for students are also on the second floor of the McIntyre.
Application forms are available for students and residents wanting to obtain a Medcor computer account.
First-year students are given the application form at registration, together with a computing-experience questionnaire which must be filled out and returned with the application form. The questionnaire is designed to help us respond to students' needs.
There is normally someone in the Medcor offices during regular
working hours.
You can ask any one of them
for help if you have an
urgent problem with the system,
or e-mail questions to help@med.mcgill.ca
.
You are also welcome to contact Prof. Robert Funnell
(e-mail R.Funnell@med.mcgill.ca,
telephone 398-6739).
On-line help is available in these SOS pages. Various computer-related seminars and workshops are offered by McGill Network & Communications Services and by the Health Sciences Library.
Tutorial material on a variety of basic computer notions (word processing, e-mail, Web searching, buying a computer, etc.) is available at Bacon.
Several multiuser computers and
their associated communication equipment are
located in a computer room next to the Medcor offices.
The computers there
act as servers for e-mail, Web pages, databases, etc.
The server used for e-mail is a Digital (Compaq)
Alpha named
Castle
and runs Unix.
Normally users do not require access to the main computer room. The computers there are generally accessed by using the personal computers in the computer labs, or from computers at home or elsewhere.
