Creating a Web site
What information to put on a Web site (cont'd)
It is probably best to include only e-mail addresses (even then keeping in
mind the possibility that they may be ‘harvested’ by e-mail
spammers). You can then give out addresses and telephone numbers
selectively when people contact you by e-mail.
There are ways to attempt to disguise e-mail addresses:
-
Fighting spam through better web design (U. Toronto)
-
Hiding your email address from spammers (FX)
- show e-mail address as an image (many Web sites offer free
generation of such images, but they won't be readable in
text-only browsers or by blind people)
- use a dummy address from a forwarding service like
MailNull (I haven't used this
service myself, and offer no guarantee of its legitimacy)
- use form-based message sending (e.g., securemail.php) if your
Web server supports it
