Objectives

The overall objective is to improve the student's ability to use computers effectively in medicine, by considering

• general ideas underlying basic tasks like word processing, e-mail and bibliographic searching;
• how computers do what they do (fundamental concepts about hardware, software, graphics, database management, Internet, World Wide Web); and
• what computers can do (or could do) in medicine.

• read and summarize research articles and a book chapter about computer applications in medicine
• present readings to the class for discussion
• do literature searches and Web searches
