Moiré measurements of eardrum shape

The three-dimensional shape of the eardrum can be measured precisely using phase-shift moiré topography. This method results in a gray-scale image in which the lightness and darkness specifies depth.

This figure shows a sequence of shape measurements of an eardrum with varying pressures applied. The white lines show vertical and horizontal profiles through the moiré images.

These measurements were made by Hanif Ladak in the lab of our collaborator, Dr. Wim Decraemer, in Antwerp.
